Up In The Air (2008)

was made as a looping projection that put to use the shoes that I don't wear anymore. These shoes usually sit on my floor doing nothing. Because the practical side of myself can hardly bear to wear them, I decided to make a video where these shoes are walking with no body. Above the bodiless shoes there hovers two heads in the clouds. So now we have head in the clouds and feet on the ground. One head is glammed out and flirty while the other head is neutral and anxious. These heads are meant to represent a conflict within myself. There is part of me that wants to blindly buy and enjoy the superficial commodities of youth culture. Then there is part of me that feels like one should be happy with the basics of life such as, food, shelter, mental stimulation and love. Eventually lighting comes and snaps the two heads into one. In the air surrounding the head floats clouds, helicopters, trash, jets and balloons. The aircrafts bring to mind war. However, that was not my intention at all. I was just inserting video footage of things in the air from the sky of Brooklyn, New York and Cleveland, Ohio.
